If you stretch/shrink the audio too much, beyond more than 15% it will get strange. If you are looking to pitch correct a voice/musical pitch, then the Antares plugin is the way to go.

In Vegas Audio 2 (I believe the audio is the same in Vegas Video 2), the timestretch and pitch shifting is simply not very good. Which is very perplexing since it's quite good in Acid. The combo pitch and time change (i.e. change length and pitch) does sound very good but you can only use this if changing the length of the audio works in your situation.

Sonic Foundry claims that the timestretch (and I would assume the pitch shift) will be much improved in Vegas 3.

IMO, the best sounding timestretch is Prosoniq Time Factory.
