pixelation after render?

I have a short clip that plays fine in reverse and stretched slightly. I render it and get several square white spots...any thoughts?

Okay, since I wrote this I've noticed it doesn't have anything to do with the "selectively prerender" because it does it without the render too. It (the reversed clip) does this right when going into a dissolve with the following clip (not reversed or any FX etc).
