Pixelation in AVI file when using FX

DaveCT wrote on 6/4/2003, 11:22 AM
Hi all,
Whenever I add a "Video FX" to the timeline that portion of the rendered video is heavily "pixelated" ("blockiness"). It doesn't seem to matter which effect is added. Video that is left unmanipulated renders fine. I thought it might be the codec but the results are the same even if I render an uncompressed AVI and/or uncheck Fast video resizing. I use the default template.
Format: Video for Windows (*.avi)
Template: NTSC DV

This issue has surfaced just recently. Any thoughts on what the problem might be?

Thanks,
-Dave

Make sure your rendering settings are set at BEST.

Tried it. No difference. By the way, if files are rendered in the Vegas Video 4 demo using the same defaults, I do NOT get the pixelation. I wonder if installing Vegas 4 installed a slightly different codec?

I also tried this solution from an earlier post:

"If the problem is occuring in the rendered footage do a search on your computer for a file named aviplug.dll. Once you find it right click on it and rename it to aviplug.dll.bak. Then reinstall Video Factory 2.0a over the top of itself and try to rerender the clip. "

Still no luck!

I've had pixellation probs which seem to have gone now. A few ideas to check:

Latest DirectX 9 (a few people have had probs, but you can uninstall it with free utility); latest graphics card driver; turn off all non-essential b/g progs (if the ram is stretched the cpu may not cope); DMA on hd's enabled; reinstall os over itself (no loss of data, but take usual precautions); reinstall VF. Also I've found it could be a hd prob, with no logical explanation, but I'm still looking into this.

This is interesting. If I'm logged in as Administrator files render properly.

Ah-ha! I've had time to investigate further. Somehow the option "Always use Sonic Foundry DV Reader" had become unchecked. Selecting this option cured the problem.
