pixelation using mainconcept mpg-1

ok, I was making a VCD, rendered a 13 minute project using he mainconcept vcd mpg-1 and made vcd. when I played the file in my dvd player, I noticed the whole picture was not crisp at all. The picture just looked bad. When I looked at the settings for the vcdntsc temp. It had the screen size down lower than 720x480. I decided that had to be it since the dvd player was wanitng to display full screen, so it was dithering the picture.

I coded the file again, this time using 720x480. The picture is now crisp, like I want, but I noticed thta during some of the transiitons the effects pixelate, which is now bugging me.

I want a VCD that is not dithered at full screen and no pixelaiton on transitions.

I've had no prodblems with this same project in printing to tape.

Thanks in advance

The correct frame size for VCD is 352x240 not 720x480.

It isn't Vegas Video's fault. MPEG-1 (VCD's) use very low bitrate. The quality isn't that great. It can be 'good' (subjective) but the more you attempt to blow it up or view it on a giant screen or if the video has a lot of fast action the more fuzzy and pixilated the image will be. Try SVCD or XVCD. Better, because of higher bitrates. Checkout http://www.vcdhelp.com

Also don't forget that MPEG-1 is always non-interlaced (progressive), so if you are starting from interlaced source material you must de-interlace it before encoding.

Otherwise it will try and encode (badly) all the 'combing' effects you get with horizontal motion because they look like fine picture detail to the encoder.
