Place two video side by side but not overlay or split screen?

I want to produce short technical videos which run as two videos viewed at the same time? I've used multi-cam mode before but that only has one video viewed at the same time and one audio track, I also understand the split screen edit but that places one video track partially over the top of the others video, so a reduction of viewing size. What I need is two side by side but NOT reduced, with reference to audio tracks these may be running at same time so that BOTH can be heard.

If I was editing still images I would create a transparent layer twice width of each and then copy as two layers each of two images moving these so that the abut each other and then I would merge all three layers.

Can one do the same in MSP 17 Platinum?

What should be the size of the source videos and the remaining video?

Each video would be 1920 x 1080 with the left one landscape and the right one portrait, using Mp4 standard HD from Sony Vg20. So had imagined a video size (layer?) during editing of 3000 x 1080 which I would then reduce back down to 1920 x 1080 "letterbox" before rendering? Total video length would be under 15 minutes with, other than front and end title "pages", no default video. Hence why I'm finding it hard to find out how to do this, yet I'm sure I should be able to somehow? Thank you for your interest.

This means that one (or both) of the videos miss a part of it and you get a not normal videosize that not fits a normal videoscreen. So another question is: What is the goal to look at that video.?

That is the problem, MSP gives tools to do "PIP", "split screen" and "multiple camera" but doesn't show, what in image editing, is a simple two layers pasted over a larger transparent layer.

The final out put video would be 1920 x 1080, or extra wide-screen to accommodate the reduction of the 1080 vertical resolution. Maybe convert to 21:9 aspect?

1. If the videos won't be harmed you need manual set the project so that both videos are normal visible.
2 and 3. Place the videos on the right places using track motion.
Such a video is only for internet and other use, not a TV screen.

Thank you Marten, this is the hint I needed to know how I can do this. Your screen-grab attached gives me clear information too! The output video will indeed be used for Internet, etc. so the odd size should be OK, I may even be able to trim unnecessary "pixels" from the sides of my video files that would help bring it back to 16:9.
