I believe you will have to put the .avi files on the timeline in the sequence you want to watch them and then just render that project to one mpeg file. This will give you one movie to which you can then add chapter markers so that you can jump around if you wish while watching it.

Along those lines, you can render all .avi files as one then render the one .avi file into an MPEG2/DVDA NTSC template. Use it as the "Background" video/image & Background Audio IF the total MPEG2 file size is less than 1 GB. This way, the video will start automatically and play until the end.
