Platinum 9.0b freezing during startup

I have Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0b on Windows 7 computer which used to work fine but after attempting to use it for the first time in a couple of months it is now freezing on the splash screen with the status "Initializing DirectX Plug-ins".

I tried uninstalling and re-installing from download of the latest version but it's still freezing at the same point.

Any suggestions please?

You are not alone, this problem has plagued other users too, in XP as well. No good solution exists other than making sure your Windows is up to date and not hacked around with codecs, or removing DX, .NET installations etc. Basically, a "vanilla" Win7 should work fine.

Hold CTRL and SHIFT during start up. This will start up Vegas in factory settings. Should work.

CTRL + SHIFT made no difference at all. I have got it working now though after I saw another post in this forum that suggested using Process Explorer (free dl from MS) to see the last thing Vegas was loading and I saw DirectSound.dll was coming up alot which lead me to re-install drivers for sound card and that did the trick.

Had you tried fully rebooting your system? I find it awkward to see such a file get permanently corrupted.
