Platinum Suite Version 12 - Capture problems

I recently bought Movie Studio Platinum Suite, Version 12; I have an HDR-CX190 Handycam that I use. I'm trying to retrieve its footage onto the program, but it doesn't recognize the device, or even that there is one connected. I've manually copied the material onto the computer, but as soon as I put it through the make movie process on Studio 12, it crashes. What do I do?

Use the software included with the camera, or Device Explorer in Vegas.
Don't us Windows Explorer.

Silly question -- how are you connecting the camera to the computer? Is the camera turned on? Does the camera software recognize the device? Have you tried plugging the SDHC card directly into the computer?

- To The USB 2.0 Port
-It is turned on
- Can you insert an SDHC card into Windows 8?

Most computers have an SD /SDHC slot.

If your computer didn't come with a card reader, you can buy them (not expensive). Some are small and plug in as needed into a free USB port. You can also buy multi-functional card readers (also inexpensive) that can read many different card types. Win 8 will recognize the card readers.

I've manually copied the material onto the computer

How did you do that?
