Play from Within an FX? SFX yes . .

How many years have I been using Vegas? Don't answer!! - Please tell me just where I can PLAY something while I am IN a vidFX? Sound FX not a problem - there is an arrow. But how can I make a play/loop from within an V-FX? I finally realised I was finding this is a pain.

It has taken a long time to "sink-in" with me.

Can't you use the regular transport controls on Vegas' main screen?

Simplest way.
create a looped region. Use T/L transport controls to set Vegas off playing out the loop. Then click Event FX and tweak away while you watch the result even as you adjust keyframes.

From within the FX you can only scrub BUT you can do that while the T/L is playing out without uspetting the T/L cursor so you can still see the FX slider move as you scrub.

Neato!

Hit F12 or the spacebar, right?

Chienworks: Nope. Once you give control to the FX menu that's it. In S-FX you can play.

Farss: Yes, that's exactly what I do, and have been doing for all these years. But no control while IN V-FX. Looping doesn't offer the "control" I can get with a "meant" play.

Rob: Yes to F12. Hit it again and it returns to where it started. Spacebar nope. Has anybody then developed this F12 further to SCRUB in the timeline? Trying to use my CSP to scrub at speed. So forward and reverse.

Grazie, not sure what's wrong on your screen, but on mine, while i have an FX window open i still have complete control to do anything i want in the editing window, including all transport controls.

If the FX window does not have focus, then the JKL key commands work fine, with repeated pressing accelerating in whichever direction.

(There is no global scrub command which can have a key assigned to it)

The CSP only emulates keystrokes, if the T/L doesn't have focus then commands from the CSP can go nowhere. This is something I've kind of mentioned years ago as being a bit of pain. If the CSP's commands were handled by a specific driver that hooked into the T/L's controls your problem would be solved and I think overall functionality would improve. I suspect though this would be no simple thing to implement and would be tied to the CSP hardware.
Downside to that last bit would be it'd only work with the CSP whereas at the moment any transport control device that can do keyboard emulation will work.

Rob: Yes to F12. Hit it again and it returns to where it started.

You can change this on the General preferences tab so that F12 pauses instead of stops. So, your follow-up F12 starts where you left off.

Spacebar nope.

Hurm. Right you are, it seems.

(shift+F12 is the default pause)
