playback and fx woes.

drdr wrote on 6/26/1999, 2:21 PM
I have a celeron 366/256mbsram/10gigdeskstar/
My setup is as follows;
10 tracks of audio and I have fx1 as my bus for fx devices
which totals 5 waves plugins;gate/verb/etc
and I am using two fx on one track at the moment.
When I platback with the fx on the machine starts to
stutter and play back is slowed/glitching.
If I remove some plugins the system gets better.Tell me I
can't only run so many fx at once.My same machine with the
saw runns 24 tracks with 12 fx running in realtime!!
I love this program but if this is it I am sad to say I
can't purchase this.I would be truly sad at that.Great work
on all the rest but the performance is def hindering.
Sorry for thew negative stuff.Passion runs deep.
Dave
Please respond.Thanx ahead.

Could you give me the exact FX you are using and detail the routing for me and FX assigments for me.

What is your buffering set to on the audio prefs page?

Thanks
Peter

Yes these are the waves native fx packs/c1/truverb/etc.
On the buffer slider it is half way(direct center on line}sorry I am away from studio rig.

Sorry, the routing is clicking insert then ass. effects, then I pick my effects which show up on the bottom of the screen as fx hooked together;chained?
After that I pick the ones or one I wish to use then
drop down the window to docking.I did notice that if you pick say fx1chain all the tracks have to use fx1chain.Shouldn't you be able to create a new chain and assign individual chains to diff tracks?

Your buffering sounds a bit high. The default is .25, and is generally a good place to start. There are times when to high of buffering can cause delays when running through certain FX.

From what it sounds like you are either adding a bus FX insert or an assignable FX. The track FX are limited to the three - eq, comp, and dither.

If you need different FX for each track, then you need to set up multiple assignable fx. These can have one or more FX in a chain. You can then send each track to these sends how you want. The amount you send, post or pre, can be adjusted by useing the multipurpose fader which by default shows the pan for a track. Each assignable FX can be routed to any bus.

You can have up to 26 main busses and 32 assignable FX. These busses can be assigned to the same or different hardware.

You can also have a chain of FX on each bus as an bus Insert FX.

You can do group mixing by assigning tracks or groups of tracks to the main busses. You can then selectively aasign the assignable FX to those busses that you want to mix the combination of track and fx to.

You may want to take a look at the signal path diagram in the pdf doc file.

Hope this help you out.

I understand this. But if I am using say one bus as an output;example would be buss E going to a dat as a converter for playback,I cannot use diff busses with diff fxchains because I must assign all my tracks through one buss to be heard;stereo to dat.
This is what I did do, 4 fx =fx1,all my tracks using buss E,
fx1 assigned to buss E,.
Then it stutters and glitches and plays at a slow speed.
Wavecenter is the card.Which I am using spidife;electronic
output to my dat.
Still not working.HMM
Help.Thanx for stickin with me on this Peter.

David:

I am a bit confused....

You have set up at least 5 Main busses, but the fifth bus is your stereo mix? What is the hardware routing to the other busses?

What are you routing to the other busses? A-D? If bus E is your final stereo mix, then all of your tracks are assigned to bus E? If not, then how can you get a final stereo mix?

All of your busses can be assigned to the same hardware device if you want. This gives you then a set of Sub groups prior to the final mix which is your hardware.

Thanks
Peter
