Playback Device

Hello,

I purchased Vegas Pro 20 a few weeks ago and have been running into an issue. When I load up Vegas Pro 20, I lose headphone and mic audio to all other sources on my computer (Discord, Internet Browser, Windows Media Player). I have to unplug my headset and re-plug it in, receive the prompt asking what I’m plugging in, select headset with mic, and then I can use all other sources again. I would like to not have to unplug my headset every time.

Thanks in advance

Try different audio drivers in Preferences to resolve your conflict.

I know this has come up before and people know the answer, but I don't so here's what the ever unreliable ChatGPT says:

  • I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing audio issues with Vegas Pro 20. This problem may be related to the audio settings or configuration within the software. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
  • Check audio settings within Vegas Pro 20: Open the software and go to the "Options" menu. Look for an audio settings or preferences section. Make sure the correct audio device is selected as the default output and input device.
  • Update audio drivers: Outdated or incompatible audio drivers can cause various audio issues. Visit the website of your headset manufacturer or the website of your computer's manufacturer to download and install the latest audio drivers for your system.
  • Check Windows sound settings: Right-click on the volume icon in the Windows taskbar and select "Open Sound settings." Under the "Output" and "Input" sections, ensure that the correct audio device is selected.
  • Disable exclusive mode: In Windows sound settings, click on the device you're using for audio (e.g., your headset) and then click on "Device properties." In the properties window, go to the "Advanced" tab and uncheck the box that says "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device." Click "Apply" and then "OK."
  • Run Vegas Pro 20 as an administrator: Right-click on the Vegas Pro 20 shortcut or executable file and select "Run as administrator." This may help resolve any permission-related issues that could be affecting the audio.
  • Reinstall Vegas Pro 20: If none of the above steps work, you can try uninstalling and then reinstalling Vegas Pro 20. This can help resolve any potential software conflicts or corrupt files that may be causing the audio issue.
  • If the problem persists after trying these steps, it may be helpful to reach out to the official Vegas Pro support team for further assistance. They can provide more specific guidance and troubleshooting steps based on the software version and your system configuration.

I have to unplug my headset and re-plug it in,

If you have a 'Dell' PC, this is a common issue, and not directly caused by Vegas. If that is the case, search Dell for a remedy.

Try different audio drivers in Preferences to resolve your conflict.

I was having issues doing this at first. The software would load using Microsoft Sound Mapper and would cause my headset that was already plugged in and set as the default device to not be seen. Audio would then get sent to my laptop speakers instead as of my headset was non-existent. When I would try to change the Audio Device, I would get a message saying the device didn’t exist which seems to have resolved my issue when I did the following. Set device to Windows Classic Wave Driver - Restart PC with those settings. Is this an issue with the Sound Mapper device type on Vegas?
