Playback issues - Vegas Pro 22 (All Versions)

Nuno-Fernandes wrote on 11/3/2024, 11:49 AM

I've been working with Vegas for ages, and this upgrade to Vegas 22 has been a horrible headache. Just dragging a clip without any effects to the timeline and hitting play results in crashes, with playback dropping from 50fps to 10/12fps and only stopping when I hit pause.

I find this unacceptable considering I work with a super capable computer: an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X processor, an AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT (16GB) graphics card, and 32GB of RAM, on Windows10.

It’s even more serious since Vegas 20 works relatively well and I don’t have any of these playback issues.

I've tried everything from enabling "Legacy AVC Decoding" and "Experimental HEVC Decoding," and nothing seems to work. I’m working with relatively lightweight clips in Full HD. I don't understand how I can resolve this issue.

Is there any help available here?

This problem always occurs, but it intensifies when I select a specific point on the timeline while it's playing. This happens even with a clip that has no effects added, making it impossible to edit anything.

I can't say I've experienced anything like what you are experiencing. For me, and I have a similar computer build to yours, it's been easy doing whatever I want.

But you've gave no indication of what types of files are the problem and what created them. Maybe uploading a few samples of the problematic files for others to test and report back might also help find a solution.

My computer specs are in my Signature below. I've edited video from the Vegas Hub and my cameras which are Panasonic. I work always in 4K 8bit or 10bit.

Hello! Thank you for your response.

I've been looking closely at the memory usage during playback, and I noticed that in the same project, Vegas 20 consumes about 3 GB of RAM while playing the video, but in Vegas 22, the usage skyrockets to 95% of RAM, reaching around 30 GB.

How is this possible?

(In both versions, I have "Dynamic RAM Preview max: 20%") Thank you!

Thank you very much for your help. Fortunately, I was able to solve the problem with the following settings:

Now the work seems to flow; I can read any clip without problems.
