Playback Issues w/ Vegas4 (Stutters, Spikes & Artifacts))

RobSoul wrote on 3/12/2003, 12:38 AM
Hi,

I just posted this as a reply to another thread, but I thought it might get lost at the bottom of the pile. So here it is in it's own thread...

I'm having the same issues with V4 that others have been mentioning here:

1.) Struttering on playback (play or record). Although I can get projects with 45+ tracks to play back, I am randomly getting short drop-outs or stutters. By the way, this occurs even in projects with less tracks.
2.) Loud noise spikes - especially when AutoPlay-ing a file in the Vegas explorer window.
3.) Strange artifacts when rendering to .wav or .aif. It's hard to describe what it sounds like. It's very short in duration and it almost sounds like some sort of digital phase distortion or something. (?) In one case I rendered the same file 5 times in a row and with each render the noise became less noticeable until it was finally gone.

My System:
Vegas 4.0 (build 115)
WinXP
Pentium IV, 2.0GHz processor
1 GB RAM
Dakota sound card

V3 ran great for me.

Thanks for any help!
Rob

this has been covered a lot in the other threads. Please email sf and tell them you have a good mix to show the problem

One of the techs responded in another thread regarding the above issue. They have zeroed in on the problem and it will be fixed in the next update. I just hope the update comes out soon. I do dance mixes for a radio station and can't have those glitches, but I need the ASIO support and will not go back to VV3, although I may have to.

Thanks for the info. I really love the low latency that ASIO has brought. But the glitches gots ta go!

Me too! I've just purchased Vegas 4 to take advantage of the discount, but after reading about all the "bugginess" I'm waiting for 4a before even installing it.

I did the same. I can't risk getting into a project without backwards file compatibility and then not being able to render it correctly. For me it was more a show of support than anything else, I suppose: the upgrade does little for my way of working but I like the application and the company.
So, SF, the money's in your hands and the clock is ticking...

I seem to have been lucky. Vegas 4 runs with almost no problems. I have experienced an occasional static blast.. seemingly at random, but usually on quick cut & joins between events, but doesn't get rendered.

I am successfully using V4 now for *small* project, with MME drivers. The only problem I get is clicks and pops on playback when I do anything graphical (zoom etc). This is all at very high CPU usage (compared with VV3), and can be a little disconcerting wiht clients looking panicked.

At least I don't have them asking "why are you using a Video program" any more ;-)
