Playback Problem

I've produce a short show by selecting the output to CD and then using the MPEG-2 format. The show produced fine and ran on my home computer both in Windows Media Player and using my DVD player (on the computer). However, when I brought it to work and tried to run it on the system there, I'm getting a message that says Windows Media Player could not download the Codec required to run this file. There's a web site on the CD that says for help go here, which I did but after downloading the players and installing them, the file still won't play. It appears that this is some kind of protection installed that prevents me from playing the CD anywhere but on my machine at home. Or, it could be that the firewalls here at work prevent the download to happen for the Codec. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, this machine is a Dell Optiplex GX110, runs Windows 2000, 128MB ram, 20GB HD, in case that matters.

You probably don't have an MPEG-2 coded installed on the computer at work. The MPEG codecs are not free and can't be downloaded for media player. They must be licensed and paid for. The reason the file plays on your home computer is because you have the Main Concept or Ligos MPEG-2 codecs that came with Video Factory.

Render your project as MPEG-1 instead and then it should play most anywhere.

You can get MPEG-2 decoders for media player at www.vcdhelp.com.

Thanks Chienworks. I should've known it wouldn't be that easy. The quality is too good. Will reproduce in MPEG-1.

SonicEPM,
Thanks much! Found the codec, installed it, and ran the show. While it was a little jerky, it did the trick for my co-worker for now. This forum is the best...quick and accurate solutions to problems. Keep it up!
