Playback rate

I notice that if I right click on a video event that is on the timeline, choose Properties and then increase the playback rate from the default setting of 1.000 that the video event is duplicated so that 2 exact copies of the video event appear on the timeline. Is this normal and/or is there a setting to prevent it happening in the first place. Would also be interesting in learning why it should happen at all.

Yes, it's normal. The event length on the timeline does not change, so you would just drag the right event edge back to the notch.

Likewise, if the playback rate is set lower than 1, you must drag the right edge out until it hits the notch to see the whole event.

Hope this makes sense.

Another alternative is to Ctrl-drag the end of the event to the desired location. This adjusts the playback speed to exactly match whatever length you drag to, all in one step. The only downside is less precise control over the speed. On the other hand, when i'm adjusting the speed my goal is usually to fit an event into a specific length, not to pick a precise speed. So for me, this method is much more useful since i don't even have to know anything about the speed or specify it; Vegas does that work for me.

Oh, and I always disable resample and sometimes apply a bit of motion blur instead, depending on the circumstance and subject, ymmv.
;?)
