Playback Rate or Event Velocity

I'm using Vegas 11 and have a video segment that I want normal speed for several seconds at the beginning and ending and then speed up playback rate for a few minutes (watching water come to a boil). I'm getting confusing results. I've tried both Playback rate and Event Velocity. With Playback Rate I see the event speed up but it repeats the video half way through. What is the process such that I don't get the video to repeat and just speed up the segment.

When you speed up a video, it takes less time to play, and therefore you have to shorten the video event.

I'll answer my own question. I split the segment into 3 segments, one at the beginning, one at the end, and the middle. The beginning and end segments are normal speed. For the middle segment I selected it and then pressed Ctrl and moved the end to squeeze the segment. Next I moved the segments together again. This works just as I wanted.

Vegas has velocity envelopes. Do a forum search.
