Playback rate problems Help Please!!!!!

I am new to this. I have just captured my first video off my brand new Canon ZR45. one clip I want to play in slow motion. So I go to the clip's properities and change the playback rate and then the clip is shorter. What am I doing wrong. I tried this with my analog camera captured via a capture card and was able to change the play rate of a clip without shortening the clip. I am noe capturing using a firewire connection.
Thanks

When you say "shorter", do you mean that it plays for less absolute time or that it now doesn't play the entire clip?

When you change the playback rate in the clip's properties, it doesn't change how much time it takes on the timeline. You'll have to drag the end out to match the new slower length of the clip.

A much easier way is to Ctrl-drag the end of the clip you can slow it down and lengthen it in one step. You can also squish it and speed it up this way.

When I selected the clip and went to properities changed the playback rate then played the clip bacl the number of frames played was less. I was not able to get it to play the whole clip.

Changing the playback rate doesn't change how long the clip will play in the timeline. You will need to drag the end of the clip out manually to accomodate the slower playback speed.
