Playback rate stuck at 1.00

New to Vegas (9.0c). In the middle of my 2nd project, the orange half-diamond under the scrub control at the bottom of the track list is set at 1.00. Every time I play my project, it is playing 1x faster. Although I can right-click the diamond for rates, there is no option to set it to 0.00. I can drag it back to the scrub control which sits at 0.00 but it pops back to where it was when I release the mouse. I have not had any problems until now. I think I dragged the play head backwards and that is when the problem started. I have been unable to find anything in the Help file that states how to remove the increased play back speed. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

1x is the correct rate. That's normal. It will play at what ever the properties for your project are set to. Each Vegas project can have diff properties depending on how the media you are using was shot. 2x is double normal speed. 0.00 would be a freeze frame. I think you are ok or are you saying when you play the timeline things are not at the correct speed?

Maybe you locked the scrub control to higher than 1.0 -- Double click the scrub control to bring it back to normal speed.

Thank you for the reply xberk. I had already rendered the project once (music video). When I was working on it, the pitch seemed high so I compared the audio from the preview to the previous rendering and it was indeed higher in pitch by a half-step. I tried double-clicking, dragging, etc. but 1.0 is where scrub indicator sits. Now it sounds like you are saying that I have a setting for the project set wrong? Is there something that would allow me to dynamically adjust the pitch of the audio tracks that would stay modified even if I changed projects? I went back to the 1st project I worked on and it too was now playing back at a higher pitch than when I rendered the original. I know in ACID Pro I can change the pitch of each track or bus but I didn't see any indicator in Vegas that the audio tracks were being modified that way. I will not be on that computer until tonight but any guidance is appreciated.

Did you inadvertently alter the audio media or event properties?
Someone will be glad to guide you through the necessary steps to find out (there are a couple of places to look), but in the meantime the quickest solution for you will be to open your media in a new project.

A half-step pitch increase suggests something other than a scrubber problem, which I confess I have never heard of before. 1.0 means 1:1 which means no change.

It would also be helpful if you post your audio system specs.

The scrub control will never have any effect on rendered output. It's only used for previewing.

It's possible to change the pitch of audio tracks in Vegas by using the + & - keys, just like in ACID. If you've done this you should see a small indicator showing the number of steps in the lower left corner of the event.

As usual right on Kelly .. DIdn't know this myself. Learning new stuff here all the time.

For anyone wondering:
Read the Vegas online help under "Pitch" .. Turn on View/Active Take Info to see what Kelly is talking about.

Ok, thanks for everyone's help. It was indeed the pitch of the audio tracks as Chienworks said. The + / - keys alters the pitch of the selected audio track or event but I cannot find any indication on any event that they have been modified. In ACID, the number of semi-tones of the modification is displayed in the corner of the event (as Chienworks said) but not in Vegas, at least not in my Vegas 9.0c. If you select the entire track and make the change, it effects all audio clips in the track - but in ACID, the semi-tone mod is displayed underneath the volume slider. I looked for a Preference setting that might be hiding these modifications but I couldn't find one. Does anyone know of an option that would hide the audio pitch modifications? Thanks again for the help.

As xberk pointed out, View / Active take information (Shift+Ctrl+i) turns this display on and off. It's handy to have on anyway as it shows you the names of the clips and takes on the timeline.
