Playback Sputtering

Some of the mpeg-2 rederings sputter and cough, jumping from scene to scen instead of a smooth play-through - others work great - seems like the slow moton scenes give the most problem.
Any clues?

What are your bitrate settings? It's quite possible that your faster motion or higher transitional areas are higher than the DVD player can manage.
