I tried unchecking display at project size but that gives me enlarged (Zoom in) pic. I checked properties of the clip (right click on the clip), in "Clpip details" it says Video format = 320x480x16 29.970fps, microsoft YUV. I tried different "Project settings" in the "New project". The result is still the same. So how to change this "Video format" size. Ken
I too, am having an issue with this, perhaps if we compare systems we might find a commonality and be able to resolve?
Running XP and all latest patches and device drivers
DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0810)
ATI ALL-IN-WONDER Radeon 7500 (using ATI XP installation)
Dual AMD Athlon 1900's
Screen Resolution 1280 x 1024
32 Bit color
No matter what capture settings are used, it seems to always capture in a weird aspect ratio, (heigth twice as tall as width).
I am also an ATI user (Radeon 8500 + ATI TV Wonder). I have found that neither Sonic Foundry's Vidcap nor ATI's own Multimedia Center (MMC) do a very good job at capturing analog video.
Vidcap is geared towards DV and the MMC always seems to limit resolution.
OK, time for me to write an analog video capture primer.
1) Get the proper software. Not all apps or codecs are suited for analog video capture.
Note: When capturing analog video, you need video that recompresses well. You can get decent captures using DIVX, but quality takes a dump when you recompress. HuffYUV is ideal since it is lossless. However, it's compression ratio is only ~ 2:1. Still it's better than the uncompressed YUV most people seem to be using. If your hard drive is straining, use PICVideo MJPEG. It isn't lossless, but compression ratios are better (~3:1 to 7:1).
I can write step by step instructions, but that would take me quite a while. Try messing around with these apps (esp. the free ones) and see what you can do. The only hints I will give you is capture at 640x480 using the YUV color space. Compress using HuffYUV.
