playing 5.1 dvd on a non-5.1 system

I was wondering what would happen if I were to burn a 5.1 dvd (ac3 audio) and played it on a dvd/tv that did not have a decoder or 5.1 (like a portable dvd player)? I assume you would get a stereo audio signal.??

Yep, You'd get 2 channel stereo..if the TV had stereo capabilities.

Same thing happens with commerical DVDs. Most have 5.1 AC3 audio tracks, and the DVD player downmixes to 2ch audio when you don't use the digital audio output.
