PLEASE give us coloured markers!!!

PeterWright wrote on 10/1/2018, 12:42 AM

This is something I remember requesting many years ago, and thought then, as I still do, that I cannot think of another such simple feature that would be so extremely useful.
As well as video I do a lot of musical arranging, and to be able to designate different coloured Markers for different jobs, to enable quick and easy recognition of a particular place would be such a help.
I am no programmer, but somewhere there must be something telling the Markers to be "rust brown", or whatever the present colour is called.
Surely a variable could be introduced so that we can make it a different colour - even if we only have the same choice that we currently do for Audio Waveforms, that would be great.

I cannot believe that I'm the only user who would like this.

Please ?

That would indeed be a great feature. Default to a color, but right-click option to change to another for example.

You're aware that you can name each marker/region?

PeterWright wrote on 10/1/2018, 7:36 PM

Yes thanks 3POINT, I am aware of that ( I've been using Vegas most days since Version 3.0. )

I’ll try and give a few examples of how different coloured Markers might be used.

Video

I might want to mark places in a play where particular characters speak or do something, as I want to later do some work on that video or audio – different colour for each character.

I might want to mark the beginnings of scenes, or places where voice over needs adding, places where sound FX is needed etc – again, different colours for different jobs would make this easier.

Audio

When I am working on music arrangements I sometimes use markers to show the beginnings of each verse, each line, each chorus, each bridge, instrumentals etc – different colours for each would help go straight to that part.

... and my biggest reason for requesting this is – on occasions I may mark the beginning of each bar of a particular passage, then each beat within that bar.   This can mean I have maybe forty-eight markers within 36 seconds.   When they’re all the same colour, which are the bar markers?

I could go on – there are countless other uses for markers.

We can right click on Audio Track headers and choose from eight track display colours. Something similar would be very welcome.

I don't use Markers extensively but can appreciate this is a good suggestion.

Interesting suggestion from a few years ago.

david-tu yes interesting. I may be missing something, but I couldn't make most of those suggestions work, as below:
-----------------------
Orange marker: Hit M - Yes, as always
Pink marker: Shift + N - Couldn't do this
Red marker: Hit N  - Couldn't do this
Green markers: Hit R - This creates a Region, as always
Blue marker: Hit C - Couldn't do this

Note: for the red and pink markers an audio track must be selected.
They are CD track markers.
Insert-> audio CD track.

----------------------------------
I did check the Help files before posting, and could not find anything about Coloured Markers

Same here Peter except N brings up Track Markers and C brings up the "Command" box. I hadn't come across Track Markers before but from the Help file they are for Audio CDs.

Presumably the keys only work with Vegas Pro.

Thanks Eric - yes I hadn't thought of using CD Track Markers, so this will sort of work as a "clunky" workaround.
