I don't know why but I'm suddenly having all these problems with DVDA.
I've done hundreds of jobs with DVDA but in the last few days it's one problem after another. It's almost like the program is cursed. The last problem I wrote about where the thumbnails were playing the wrong scenes seems to have been resolved. I had to start anew and do the DVDA project over again. The only difference the second time was that I put four clips (thumbnals) on a page instead of six...and the chapters played properly.
That took me another hour to do but...oh well
:(

But now another VERY FRUSTRATING problem has arisen. Let me explain.
I've never had a problem with fitting a project on a standard DVD disc.
I've done many projects well over two hours and all I had to do was use the OPTIMIZE button then slide the DEFAULT VIDEO BIT RATE slider down to 90.0% of 4.700GB. I've done this hundreds of times, I'm sure, and I never had a problem. DVDA prepared and burned the video beautifully.
But now today, for the first time, the slider won't work! It's at 161.0% and I can't move it. I don't know what's wrong. I must finish this project by tomorrow and I'm about to pull my hair out. Please help!

What is your source media?
Sounds like it's noncompliant with dvda.

You don't say what version of DVDA, and it isn't in your profile, so I will guess that you are using DVDA 5.0, but that shouldn't make any difference.

I have no clue why the slider won't work. I never use it. Letting DVDA recompress your already compressed video only compromises the video quality.

The correct workflow is to encode your MPEG2 file for DVDA using the DVD Architect template in Vegas "Render As". Adjust the bitrate to get a 4.3 Gb video file and you should be OK.

"Thumbnails playing the wrong scenes". I've had this before when I've added a chapter afterwards. have you checked which chapter each one is linking to in the 'Action' tab? I usually have ten thumbnails per page, so six isn't a problem.

I agree with Steve re the optimise button, but also from memory, there's a limit to how much optimise will shrink your file.

Your options are: Re-encode in Vegas, or use the free DVD Shrink programme to compress your file before putting into DVDA.

Can you do that? I've always output from DVDA and then used Shrink to reduce the size to fit a DVD.

My mistake, I meant AFTER creating the DVD files/ISO.

Thanks guys! I got it fixed. A lovely tech lady named Emily at Sony told me what to do and it's (the slider) is working now. I had to click on the video tab in the optimize window and change the setting from recompress NO to
YES. After that the slider worked and I was able to set the bit rate at 90% of 4.700 and the size on disc to 4.2GB. Now it's working and I'm doing a celebration dance!
