Please help: Frequent crashing on Vegas Audio 2.0g

I'm experiencing consistant crashing on Vegas, which I've noticed particulary happens when I'm running Waves plug-ins.

Typically, I'll be running two Waves plug-ins as inserts on two tracks, normally Renaissance Compressor and EQ. There may also be some music on a couple of other tracks. I'll be editing voice-overs on these two tracks, quickly chopping, moving and playing. I've noticed that when I split an event and then hit play, without moving the cursor, I'll invariably get a nasty clicking sound and then either an error message then a crash, or Vegas will just lock up.

It seems the only way to avoid this is to treat the software very gently by working very slowly, something which I'm loathe to do! This obviously isn't good, considering I'm running the latest version of the software and my PC is pretty much up to spec: Pentium II 850, 128MB Ram, fast HD, etc.

Is anyone else experiencing this and does anyone have any ideas how it can be solved, esp. SF?

Thanks
Ben

try un-installing waves and see if its a problem when you work.
then re-install waves.if its still a problem after re-installation get rid of waves.
seems harsh but better to have a smooth system then awkword fx.

What ver of Waves are you running? You should have 3.2 They really reworked a lot in 3.2 to make them play well with other apps. I beta for Waves and I run Waves 3.2 with SF4.5 & 5.0b, Acid 3.0 and 2.0, Vegas Video 2.0g on Win 98se and Win2k sp2. BTW did you upgrade from Waves 2x to 3x? please feel free to e-mail me.

Thanks for the suggestions guys; it didn't cross my mind the problem could be to do with the plug-ins. I just checked and it does look like I could do with upgrading the Waves plugs - I'm running version 3.0!

Cheers

It cant be just plugs, anymore than a cracked head gasket can be cured by just changing plugs.....oh bad bad pun, but relevant I think.
I have yet to have it confirmed but i think there is a problem with the amount of edits and takes in a file, regardless of track count. Vegas for me always seem more prone to crash in mixes with LOTS of splits and crossfades and lots of takes ( active or not!!!).
The sync problems are a lot mellower now than before but still there is the dance of clicking chase to midi sync three times before changing mixes! I would love to have someone from SF come here and see this sucker in use in real life, and at some of my client's personal studios, hopefully that would shed some insight on making the best (vegas) even better!

Actually it would be cool if any forum users operate studios close to SF's base of operations, and copuld have them come and see it in action.

I totally agree Aaron. I work in a radio production environment, which can be pretty intensive. A hell of a lot of edits, plug-ins and tracks and of course the one thing I want to be able to do is work as fast as possible. I beleive you shouldn't have to treat your software with kit cloves - fair enough if it can't handle loads of plugs etc, but frequent crashing and lockups because of edits, fast zooming, etc is certainly out of order.

Having been used to working with proprietary systems like Pro Tools and SADiE, crashing is something I'm not used to worrying about. You can work as fast as you like, do as many edits as you like, and these baby's are rock solid. I really do believe Vegas to have the potential to be a superior multitrack (I love it), but really wish I could rely on its stability. BTW: even Cool Edit Pro hardly ever crashes, SF take note!!

Right, rant over.
