Please Help - I Can't Import Anything (Video, Still Image, Audio File)

Sorastro wrote on 10/31/2016, 4:13 PM

Hello!

I have just installed the trial version of Vegas Pro 14 on a brand new PC (64-bit Windows 10, 128GB RAM, nvidia 1080 GPU) but I cannot import any kind of media into a project (video, jpgs, wavs - you name it!).

The strange thing is I can open up my previous Vegas Pro 12 projects and play and edit everything just fine but I simply cannot import anything new - all that happens is the cursor turns into a "no entry" symbol and the programme usually hangs.  This happens regardless of whether I drag the media directly in from Windows or whether I use the build-in explorer.

This wouldn't be a bizarre limitation of the trial version would it!? I'm running out of ideas and would be very grateful for any assistance!

Thanks.

It should working as usual. I can drag these files here.

Do you install any 3rd party codecs ? What other applications have you installed?

Thanks for the response! No I haven't installed any 3rd party codecs.  I've only installed a handful of programmes: Cubase 8, Photoshop, Lightroom, and a couple of games.  After I noticed the issue I also installed Quicktime (thinking it was just a .mov issue).  I'm really baffled!

I use .mov files from my Nikon D750 (which I had no problem importing on my previous PC using Vegas 12).  It's not just video files that I can't import however - I can't import simple image or audio files either.

Sorastro, is the File: Import method not working?

The reason I ask is that, after a Windows 10 update, on one of my PCs I can no longer drag & drop certain types of media files into a Vegas timeline (even Vegas 13), but I can use File: Import to get them in there.  My other PC works normally...  I'm baffled as to why: perhaps something to do with Windows 10 permissions?

I tried this: I right clicked on a media file (jpg), told Windows that I wanted Vegas to be the app associated with jpg's, but when it tried to open it in Vegas I got an error message that said that only installed programs could open the file.  I uninstalled & reinstalled Vegas, no change...

Thanks for the helpful suggestions! I'm afraid if I try and use the File: Import method Vegas crashes :/

If you run as administrator when opening the application, does it allow you to import the files?  I have seen similar symptoms in audio editing applications.

Thank you for the suggestion! But no - I'm afraid the problem persists even when I run it as an administrator.

When desperate in such circumstances, make sure that your disks are not "sleeping" in power save mode, and for .mov files make sure there are no spaces in the file names.
