please help! - skipping in the preview

im still not sure about my settings when i render. i was starting out with @ 400 000 Kb of captured clips when i captured using miro dc 30. when i used all 9 clips to produce a one-minute piece, the avi file was 2 GIGS! Any suggestions?

i was getting a motion trail and some skipping when i played the playback from sf videocapture, but playing with some of the settings (truly unsure of the difference i made cuz i was at this all afternoon and evening) and re-rendering smaller pieces of the one-minute movie, i was able to rid the playback of the motion-trails. there was only skipping.

also, first renderings of the one-minute piece took, on average, 15 minutes. the last two that i did, which had no motion-trails, albeit cut to 20 second pieces, took no longer than a minute to render. it was much faster.

im convinced that it all has to do with my settings. can anyone lead me - please?!

As far as your output file size, you're apparently rendering to an
uncompressed .avi format. Try using the DV codec instead. This has
great quality and only needs about 220MB per minute.

As for jittery previews, I had the same problem. Just about the preview window is a drop down selection with the choices Draft / Preview / Good and Best Quality. Try "Draft Quality" or "Preview Quality". My guess is yours is set to "Best", and computer can't do all the calculations and present a "Best" preview in real time.

Also worth mentioning, but no where on this board has anyone given the advice to "Defrag" your hard drive periodically. That cures a world of problems with video editing.
