Please help, Subtitles not working :-((

VMP wrote on 6/10/2004, 4:55 PM
I have made a DVD +RW with 3 clips with subtitles.

But when I play the renderd DVD on the set-top player, I see the subtitle for 2 seconds then it is stuck or not working. ( The video and audio resumes )
On the DVDA preview mode everything works.

When I renderd a second DVD with one clip it is the same.
No subtitle, also tried to play it on pc, also no subtitle.

I have also tested with
the "Sample DVDA 2 Burn project"from sony.
Also there the subtitle is stuck ( dosent go further than first line "going home"). the video and music plays on..

Has this something to do with my DVD + RW writer??
I have also updated The writers firmware.

Or is it a Bug?

My set top DVD Player is - Philips 751
My DVD writer is - Philips 228k
Burnd Media - Philips 4.7 Gig + RW.

Please help,

Thank you

Try playing it from your hard drive using your DVD player software.

Try having a friend play your disks.

This is really strange,
The subtitles work on Windows media 9 player...
But not on my set-top
Have any one actually tested the subtitle system on a set top player?

I am going to test the DVD later on a Sony DVD player.

But still this would mean that al my DVD 's would not work on Philips set-top DVD players??

I have tested the DVD on a "Sony DVP-NS330" set-top player.
There the "plain"subtitles work.

But 1 clip has background darking, on the subtitles-text, because the background is also white,
That clip is also not working on the Sony DVD player. Has any one tested that?

But Why is no subtitle working on my Philips 751?
Also at my Philips player the video pauzes when other chapter enters, then also the subtitle appears for a while.
I always thought that My Philips DVD player is a good compatible player.

Would this mean that the DVD 's made with DVDA2 wil not work properly on Philips DVD Players?

And when you darken te subtitle-Text background it dosent work in any players?

Also playing from the Hardisc does not work. I have tried playing it on WM9 player, the background darkend subtitles does not work.

Plain subtitles do work on WM9 player.

So the final conclusion is this;

Renderd DVD:

Video with plain subtitles works on
"Sony DVP-NS330"
And not on
"Philips 751"

Subtitles with dark background does not work on

"Sony DVP-NS330" or "Philips 751"

Also video pauzes and subtitles appears ( for a while)when chapter jumps.
when played on Philips 751.
-----------------------------------------
Playing from hardisc:

Video with plain subtitles works on
Windows media player 9 series.

Subtitles with dark background does not work on
Windows media player 9 .

What is going one?

Is there an update coming for DVDA2? to solve these problems?
My projects are stuck through this.

Should I write to Sony Email support about this?

This is the first report of such problems. Can you retest by burning onto another brand of media? It's possible your set top players are having trouble reading the media.

If changing the brand of media doesn't help, then create a small test project that exhibits the problem on your Sony DVP-NS330 and we'll provide you with an ftp site for upload.

ok I will try, burning it on A SONY DVD+R
richard-courtney wrote on 6/11/2004, 9:04 PM
When you say darkened do you mean more black or move transparent?

I have seen some players not show highlights that are less than about 70%
saturation. Don't know why except even areas that I have used a
blur tool to try to get rid of strobing makes them hidden.

I meant Black/grey, the back color when you press the "outline button".
I found the main preset too dark, so I made it a bit lighter.

AS (SonySDB) said, I am going to test it on other RW+ media.

Then I will inform wat the result will be.

Thanks.

Try to activate the subtittle button in the time line area before preview and prepare your DVD and see if the sub... text will come out on screen .Also, the recording device window is not open for DVD burning when you clik <finish> Please advise !

I've burned more than 15 times the same RW media to test my project named Space Images. It's such a complex project, 5 videos, subtitles in English and French for 2 of those videos.
I've also burned with the media Philips 4.7 GB +R more than 4 times.
I'm sorry but everything is perfect.

Aha ok, but on what kind of
set-top player have you tested it?
