Please Help...Vegas Video Factory: Render limit?

s8nsson wrote on 10/21/2000, 2:56 PM
I just bought Video Factory and am working on my very first
project, a 3.75min video clip. When I go to render the
final I get to 3.99gigs worth of AVI and VVF quits with an
error in writing the file asking me to be sure I have
access to the folder(not write protected) or that there is
enough space.
The HD i'm rendering to is my D drive, a 20gig with 13gig
free. It's a UDMA drive.
I'm rendering for capture back to my DV camera. NTSC
(720x486) 29.97FPS
I have successfully rendered and captured 38 seconds back
to my camera. Is there a size limit i'm not aware of?

Please Help.

Hi Keith -
Unfortunately, unless you're using windows 2000 or NT with an NTFS
partition, the limitation of a file size is 4 gig.

I don't know Factory, but with VV:
Something in your render settings is wrong. If you render to NTSC
DV, 3.75 minutes will weigh in at under 1 GB easy. With WIN98SE you
can easily render broadcast quality DV up to 16 minutes at a time.
It sounds like you are not using the standard VV NTSC DV CODEC
template. If you accidentally/intentially choose one of the other
available CODECS on your PC, your file sizes can easily exceed what
is necessary, and actually end up with sub par quality. Stick with
the templates...
Good Luck

Yes, this is true. I wasn't really paying attention to your project
lenght - sorry. What might be happening is that you are rendering to
Uncompressed Video - which is WAY too large. Make sure in the Video
tab of the NTSC DV template that it says NTSC DV as Video Format and
not Uncompressed.

good luck!

When I choose the NTSC DV template for rendering a 4 second file, it
produces an .avi file that's over 18 megs. This is accepting the
defaults. What else can be done to get four minutes under a gig?
