please help! won't open!

kimberly-n wrote on 12/26/2016, 1:12 PM

My project will not open! I spent hours on it, and I went onto the desktop and now it won't let me open it! I have Sony Vegas pro 14! it's frozen and at first I could open the whole program, but I can't even go into my windows start menu anymore. What do I do? I don't want to start over as I spent so much time on it.

Surely, Vegas saved everything to a .bak file. Just rename it to .veg and open it. And from now on, keep saving every time you make a change before making the next change, so the only thing you might potentially lose would be the last change you made.

What folder do they store the .bak files in?

Grazie wrote on 12/26/2016, 1:42 PM

Mine are stored with the Project Files.

However I have Edward Troxel's Auto Save working over time too!

Thank you so much for your replies, but does Sony Vegas pro always save as a bak files regardless if you saved it or not?

kimberly-n wrote on 12/26/2016, 1:48 PM

I can't find project files /:

I managed to get it this far, but I'm scared it will randomly crash before I save it. What are my options?

Grazie wrote on 12/26/2016, 2:26 PM

Your options? Sounds like you now have something choking Vegas from starting up, and that we will need to ascertain from you by you providing the information - otherwise we are all staggering around in the dark.

Are you working from ONE hard drive? Do you have your system loaded on the same drive you have all your media and projects on?

How about some system specs? How much hard drive space do you have available?

I'm sorry, I am fairly new to this. I am working from one hard drive. I have 300GB available in my hard drive. I have a trial version of Sony Vegas Pro 14.0.

It's the local disk that I'm using. I am unable to go to my desktop for some odd reason.

I was able to start up an old project I have saved from my folder, so I believe it's only this project that is unresponsive.

What folder do they store the .bak files in?

Same folder as the one where the .veg files are stored in.

Just, please remember, from now on, keep saving your .veg (aka, veggie) after every change. And if you want to make sure you can discard the changes, then save it under a different name every time, such as MyProject0000.veg, MyProject0001.veg, etc. Veggies are fairly small, so don’t be afraid of saving often and under different names.
