Please please help recording drop-outs

Today I was recording two seperate projects. One went fine with the usual skips, slicks, pops and everything else I've come to love from Vegas4. The second one we had to record three songs, 2 went fine. On the third about 16 tracks it would start recording as normal then all of a sudden the meters would freeze up, the mouse would get sticky, the playback cursor kept moving as normal, but the events stopped drawing.

Every once in a while in the past I have seen the events stop drawing but then they would jump back in and on playback everything would be fine. Tonight howerver, after it started recording again we'd go back and listen through that spot and there would be a giant skip in time to the point when the event drawing resumed.

I have tried clocking this in wordclock, from the convertors, the card as master, with spdif as master, and both internal and external. This was in ASIO mode as MME is too glitchy for me.

The frustration all around rose to the point where I lost this customer who was first recording his band and then later would be brining in other bands for a compilation CD I cant have this happen ever.

What could possibly be causing this? What can I check? What can I do to ensure that this wont ever happen again? Are there any tests I can do? Power has been a little weird in the neighborhood lately could this have something to do with it?

if you render the section where this happens, is it normal, or does it render with the strange stopping / gapping?

I've had these problems too, although they've not been showstoppers. I end up having to hard-reboot the computer 3-4 times a day due to inexplicable lockups and rubbish.

There's some really bizarre behaviour going on!

please SF, Pipe and I aren't usually complainers - but this needs to be sorted, it's not doing our reputation, or yours much good!

My biggest bug problem at the moment is the event issue. For some reason things just disappear and drop out.. on renders etc. This usually happens on vocals.

I've had to re-render each song several times to try and get a final version with no inexplicable dropouts.

the fact that sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't is even more irritating!

there is nothing to render where this happens, because it hasnt been recorded, but I should try and see like you say, what happens if i render the area in time where it is. I will do that tomorrow

you are right, the fact that its random is the biggest killer

I never had this exact problem till today
