Please Sony, help me out with this!

I've asked about this before and other people have said this really bothers and slows them down as well. I'm refering again to how if you use your keyboard mute or volume controls in Vegas 5 it affects track properties. In Vegas 4 and very other program I've ever used these keyboard controls control only the output volume to your speakers.
Sure, you can turn off this option in Vegas 5, but it doesn't seem to restore the keyboard controls to the way they worked in Vegas 5, it just makes them useless.
To compensate for this Vegas 5 weirdness, I'm using Vegas 4 for everything audio related, then open the project in Vegas 5 and finish there if any of Vegas 5's features are needed. This really slows things down and makes a mess of veg files.
Please, Sony, let me know if there's a way to restore keyboard audio controls to the way they worked in Vegas 4. If this can't be done, is there any thought to correcting this in an upcoming version? As a last resort, can you assign the keyboard volume functions to a shuttlepro?

Thank you for your time and concern.

I haven't tried doing any of this but I would have thought it fairly easy to fix. In Vegas 5 can't you edit all of the keyboard mappings, I'm assuming you could unassign the offending keys to Vegas and then you're away.
But I'm not too certain I fully understand the problem. My keyboard doesn't have any keys to control volume although my Sony Vaio has certain function keys for controlling screen birghtness and volume, are these the kind of keys you're referring to?

Yes, the keyboard volume buttons will control track volume while editing. However, you can minimize Vegas, and adjust the volume with the keyboard buttons as normal. And this also works while you're playing your project from the timeline.

Perhaps Sony changed the keyboard volume operation for punch-in recording. It would be nice to have a preference option for how the keyboard volume buttons should function, just like the spacebar/F12 preference.

Have you tryed calling or emailing Sony tech support and ask them directly?
