This is one aspect I'd hoped to see improved in Cinescore at final release...the ability to nest a veg file inside the app. But, it's not that it's easier than Smartsound, it's the flexibility.
There is something on the install, but at least for the time being, you've got to render in Vegas to open in Cinescore.
Cinescore is similar to Smartsound in this aspect. But Cinescore offers a lot more flexibility in several areas that Smartsound doesn't offer, and Smartsound has some benefits (such as multi-track) that Cinescore doesn't offer. I see them more complementary than competitive, myself.
Let's hope we see Cinescore become as much a plugin as a standalone in the near future, yeah?

Does anyone have good suggestions for workflow with Cinescore? In the past, I've compiled simple videos using Vegas/DVDA by downloading some music from Freeplay and then setting the videos to the music. Now, with Cinescore, it seems I can set the music to the video. But with no close integration, how can I conveniently work? Do I just edit the video completely silent and then try to put the rendered piece in cinescore and get the music to line up? But will it sound too "forced" if I have video that was developed without any regard for timing or style? Do we just have to constantly switch back and forth between Vegas and Cinescore, tweaking each time? If so, it's going to be slow going because of the time necessary to render the video in Vegas each time.

Any thoughts? Am I missing something? To me it seems like Cinescore would be much more useful and usable as a plugin.

This is why I'd like to see a veg file open in Cinescore. I don't know how tough this would be to generate code for, but it would save a LOT of what is called "round-tripping" in the FCS workflow. Bearing in mind that Cinescore is a 1.0 app right now, we can hopefully expect a lot of improvement in how Cinescore works with the various suite tools.
Cinescore can be used with slugs, too, which is a fast way we work with un-edited video. The question that remains up front is "Do I edit vid to the story or edit vid to the music" and for most broadcast, it's obviously edited to the story, but some folks like to tweak to music when they can, vs tweaking the music to fit. This is where Cinescore is currently weak, IMO.

Is there any way in Vegas to create something like time-based markers for beats so you at least can pre-plan the tempo and don't have the tempo constantly shifting to match video clips of variable sizes?

I am playing with this and really not too much to play with. Very limted and there is a seperate "plug-in" that is installed. Can't find anything that mentions it either but if you take the dll it will register as a DX plug in that "will be available in all apllications that allows DX plug-ins". Doesn't show up in any - not even graphedit lists it. Have no clue as to what the "plug-in" actually plugs into.

You can change the ruler to Measures and Beats as well as define how many beats per minute, on the Ruler Tab of Project Properties.

There is, but this barely benefits Cinescore, because it's based on the time of the clip, not the time of the region in Vegas. So, you'd need to roundtrip each scene or segment of clips. Cinescore obviously has beats/measures, but it gets its timing from the video you give it. Don't think like a composer. think "I have this length of video, Cinescore matches it.
As I've said earlier, I'd LOVE to have veg import to Cinescore, and then have the ability to define a region or regions within that veg. Or, more accurately, dropping a veg in as a nested file.

Hmm.... integration with an unfinished Veg would be the money ap here. Odd that at this stage of release that it isn't. Kinda like the BG3 "integration" not happening. I really don't fancy a "round-trip" - my ideas aren't THAT sustainable.

Would Satish's FrameServe assist? - G
