PlugIn Comparisons

This is sort of directed to Spot's reply to a plugin thread.
He mentioned using a few programs that I would have predicted in a different way.
Is Zenote a better series of plugs to get film effects than Ultimate S?
Is Cayman Graphics better than Boris Red - for text graphics? (and is it a true plugin for Vegas, or do you need proxies, like you do with Boris?)

Zenote doesn't do film effects. There are 5 basic tools, blur, jitter, glow, letterbox, and grain. There is a new deartifactor too, but it's not an effect as much as a tool.
I love the Zenote stuff.
Cayman is MUCH faster than Red for text. It's a true plugin. www.caymangraphics.com
I enjoy it, it's a good tool. It's got an older-looking interface, but it was the standard of many NLE's as a titler for years. If they weren't such a small company, you'd see more marketing on them. they don't offer extrusion, but, that's not what it's designed for.
Zenote is a great addition if you already have Pixelan; I'd choose Pixelan over Zenote as a "first" plug buy, but Zenote would be hot on the heels of some of the other tools available.

Yes, thank you but...
"Zenote doesn't do film effects. There are 5 basic tools, blur, jitter, glow, letterbox, and grain. "
With colour curves, isn't this chain what makes up film effects? I kind of though that Film Effects are: Colour Curves, Grain, LetterBox (3:2Pulldown) and glow.
I know Zenote purchased FilmFX from Aaron Hurley and thought that these plugs were their answer to his product (MAN! I wish FilmFX was available for Vegas!).
I'm still learning here.

The Zenote plugs are written by Aaron. They are all pieces of FilmFX but you have to manually combine them to come up with your "looks".

I guess in that sense, you're right, Matthew. The effects in Celluloid use a lot more than that, including convolutions, bumps, and other things, but yes, you can use the Zenote stuff for a huge portion of it. I love the Zenote glow, it's got a very nice look to it. I probably use the Glow and the Random/jitter more than anything for titles or softer looks.
