Plugin Hardware

Hi,

I have been using VV2 and I am demoing VV3. I use both for recording audio, not directly but imported off a Roland VSR880. As I would imagine, there is a limit to the ammount of tracks I can process with the various FXs I have. What hardware recomendation are there for DSP processors that work with the Direct X plugins for VV or VA?

The best thing that you can do is buy the biggest/fastest processor out there. My recommendation would be a AMD processor. Dual would be king plus of course using two hard drives[one for OS+apps, the other for audio]. I say AMD because they give the best bang for the buck. They really have come along way.

Now if you were inquiring on say the Universal Audio cards[www.uaudio.com] or TC Powercore[www.tcworks.de]. It is definitely possible to use it but you must go to www.fxpansion.com and buy their "VST Wrapper" so that you can use vst plugins with VV/VA. Both these cards are new to the market and still have a bunch of bugs in them...the ua card more than the TC card as far as I can tell. The ua card will have updated drivers in Febuary sometime which hopefully will resolve many of the cards shortcomings. Though the quality of your mixes will improve tenfold even with these problems. You will not find any better quality plugins anywhere.
If you go to the UA forum at www.chrismilne.com/uadforums/ there is someone who got it to work with Sonar in a very interesting way. Later.
