PlugIn Manager : disappearing folders.

RRA wrote on 8/25/2009, 4:49 PM
I use hundreds of presets for effect chains and as many VST plugins. It's very useful to organize effects in user folders. I can create folders but they are visible only during Vegas session. If I close application, folders dissapear. Situation is the same for 32 and 64 instance of Vegas. My system is Vista Ultimate 64 SP1. VST folders are still visible in ACID.

Fist I have checked preset manager but this application is stabil and all installed presets are present and it's easy to locate it in folder on hard disk. So preset manager isn't a couse.

I have noticed that registry KEY :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sony Creative Software\Vegas Pro\9.0\Metrics\Plug-In Manager.1

consist of a huge amount of subkeys and even folder names which I defined recently are there present (but not visible in Vegas).

During Vegas session I can find in this KEY names of already created user folders. But when I close application - subkeys are deleted and this is core of problem.

Problem isn't artificial because has influence on presets of installed plugins (default presets and animation routines in Effect FX windows are disappearing too). It's easy to reinstall plugins... but it's not a solution.

I suppose it's question of mess in registry.

Does anybody know this issue ? I have seen similar topis connectec with ACID, but unfortunatelly, there is no script how to manage this problem.

I can't comment on the registry (SPCC), but I too have hundreds of FXs chains; duly spent time arranging them into a logical "tree" only to have them re-grouped as one massive set in one folder in a follow-up session.

Most annoying indeed.

IMHO, this is one of the most annoying bugs in Vegas. It is flat out broken and has been for several releases/years. The folders don't even hang around for a day. After a few starts they disappear without a trace. I've gotten tired of trying to arrange them and wish that Sony would fix this problem. :(

Actually they have fixed this in ACID Pro 7 by re-designing the Plug-in Manager and not using the registry (from what I've read on the ACID forum). Vegas needs to do the same. Especially if you own the New Blue FX plug-ins because there are so many of them with no way to organize them.

HI,

... DISAPPEAR WITHOUT A TRACE ...

Please, look to the registry KEY :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sony Creative Software\Vegas Pro\9.0\Metrics\Plug-In Manager.1

I'm sure You will find all Your folders names there, but Vegas can't read this KEY properly.

I'm sure the solution is in export/import registry key (it's acctually very similar to use recovery point but I don't need to rebuild all registry, only suitable registry keys).

But how to organize KEY properly ? I have asked Sony support and I'm waiting for answer. I my case KEY is (in my opinion) overloaded - because I was very stuborn and I had repeated creating folders operation many times. Today I can't even add one new folder - folder disappear immediately with closing Vegas.

What is more dangersous : this has some influence on other plugins presets. In average I have to reinstall NewBlueFX every week because they are loosing their defalut presets and there is no animation in FX window.

Unfortunatelly 9b is not able to resolve this problem. I have installed it on previous version (without uninstall). In 32 and 64 is the same situation.

Please send post to forum if You have achieved better results after uninstall/install procedure.
