Introducing PluginPac FrameServer

PluginPac FrameServer is a plugin which will allow NLEs to do FrameServing and AudioServing. FrameServing and AudioServing are the techniques used to transfer audio/video data from one application to another without doing a full fledged render and temporary files. PluginPac FrameServer is a plugin for NLEs enabling them to export their timeline audio/video data outside so that other applications can use the timeline directly as input.

Another use of the Frameserver/Audioserver is to serve audio/video data to an application that does not understand the source format. If you have an NLE that can open .MOV files and your MPEG encoder can read only .AVI input files, you can open the .MOV file in your NLE and use PluginPac FrameServer to serve the a/v data to your MPEG encoder. This way compatibility increases between applications.

Currently PluginPac FrameServer v1.5.1 is available for the following software.

SonicFoundry Vegas (and earlier Vegas Video/VideoFactory versions).
Adobe Premiere.
Ulead MediaStudio Pro
You can download PluginPac FrameServer from here (56kb download). Vegas users, please uninstall any previous version of the Frameserver installed before using this one. If you want FrameServer to support other NLEs, drop in a request at the Userforum.

Usage Instructions

For Vegas:

1) From the timeline, do a "File > Render As" to open the default render dialog.
2) Enter a valid filename for the output file. This file is called the "signpost" file.
3) Choose "PluginPac FrameServer" as the output type.
4) Click "Save" to start FrameServing.

For Premiere:

1) From timeline, do a "File > Export > PluginPac FrameServer". 2) Enter a valid filename for the output file. This file is called the "signpost" file.
3) Click "Save" to start FrameServing.

For MediaStudio Pro:

1) From the timeline, do a "File > Create > Video File" to open the default render dialog.
2) Enter a valid filename for the output file. This file is called the "signpost" file.
3) Choose "PluginPac FrameServer" as the output type.
4) Click "Save" to start FrameServing.

5) You can now open the signpost filename you entered above in your target application and frameserving will take place.
6) To stop frameserving, click the "Stop Serving" button in the FrameServer dialog and return to your NLE.

Limitations

1) There are some issues with audio serving from Vegas, so seeking back in audio will cause any subsequent audio reads to return empty samples. In such cases, use the "Write audio as PCM samples in AVI" option. This can also be used in other software which are unable to read the FrameServer audio.

2) If audio is not saved as PCM with AVI file, seek operation may fail if started from the middle of the served video.
