PluginPac Shatter3D FX released!

satish wrote on 11/25/2002, 4:05 AM
PluginPac Shatter3D FX for Vegas released. This is a plugin to create the breaking-glass / shatter / explosion kind of effects in full 3D.

A list of features of PluginPac Shatter3D...

1) Divide a video frame into user-configurable number of pieces and shatter those pieces.
2) Keyframmable shattering force allows to animate the explosion/implosion very easily.
3) Random rotate control to give natural random spin, tumbling of individual pieces as the frame explodes.
4) Gravity control to make the broken pieces fall to the ground after the explosion.
5) Integrated 3D rotation and perspective controls to easily rotate/animate the glass shattering effect from various angles.

Free download from PluginPac homepage.

Users who have the earlier 3D LE installed will have to uninstall that before installing this version. This is because of a change in the directory layout for the plugin.

Apart from the addition of Shatter3D, the "crop-producing-stray-lines" bug in 3D LE has been fixed.

Cheers
Satish

PS: If the download site is down or slow, please be patient. :)

Forgot to add that there is a tutorial .veg named "ppsh3d.veg" in the "vegas\video plug-ins\pluginpac" folder that you can view first to start with.

Quick test. First class implementation. Absolutely cool!

Added later: Win2000, VV3c138 Demo-Version only, runs fine.

Satish---when running Shatter, VEgas closes down and this is why:

Thanks i'll see what's going wrong. Can you save the .veg and send to me
rextilleon wrote on 11/25/2002, 9:21 AM
Sure--but what happens is that Windows wants to shut down Vegas---one other problem I am having is that when you open up Shatter, the default settings have the shatter occuring--not set at 0---so in order to do my first key frame I have to set everything back to zero---Let me see if I can send you a Veg file---I will try to save before Vegas crashes.
satish wrote on 11/25/2002, 9:28 AM
Or you could tell me what values you are entering in the fields.

Also i'll change the default values that you mentioned - thought it would be good to see in action as soon as you apply the plugin.
rextilleon wrote on 11/25/2002, 9:31 AM
Satish---sent you an email before looking in here again---it seems to happen intermitently, often when I put the Subdivision level way up---or the Shattering force way up-------
rextilleon wrote on 11/25/2002, 9:33 AM
Satish, it seems to happen when you increase settings like subdivision, Shattering force--last time it happened i increased subdivision level to 60.
satish wrote on 11/25/2002, 9:43 AM
oh! That is the problem :) Cant increase subdivision level more than 16... Remember, number of pieces is actually 2 power 60 which is sucha huge number. Keep subdivision level small (within 8/10) and try other parameters.

Hi Satish.

This is a cool plugin. Suggestion: Could you add a setting to the drop down that puts the event back to normal (all of your settings at 0). Perhaps you could have the shattered version and the normal version as two selections??? That way it would be easier to set everything back to normal (or start there) which is likely what one would want at some point.

This plug-in and the 3D one is excellent. I really appreciate your time, and your heart, in bringing this to us.

Hi, and THANKS

You asked for feedback. I suggest that each of your plug in have an icon that is labeled RESET to ZERO, or some such, similar to all other SoFo VV FX. Please.
rextilleon wrote on 11/25/2002, 11:39 AM
You can create your own on the pulldown menu---I called mine reset----Although it wouldn't surprise me if Satish has it default to zero on the next build.
satish wrote on 11/25/2002, 12:26 PM
Default to zero is done. You can download the latest now :) And yea, there is a reset button too in the dialog which will do the same.

Satish, you are a gentleman and a scholar. 3DLE is great, and this Shatter FX is perfectly timed for my next project.

Thanks for all your efforts.

Satish,
I have just quickly reviewed the 3D rotation effect and it is great. I look forward to experimenting with all the cool effects in the plug-in. Great work, we all owe you for your contribution to this art form. VV3 has put the fun back into video editing for me.

VV3 has reduced my production time by at least 50%. The "real time" review makes composition fly. I was using cinestream and VV3 blows it away by far.

My render time is still longer that I hoped for but I think it is due to the P3 500 processor I have. I am considering upgrade to P4 2.4. Any thoughts on how much performance to expect.

Thanks a million,

Yes, i havent optimized them to the core... all my plugins are currently aimed at functionality, not speed. Once i get PluginPac's first version out as a bunch (with more FX), i'll do the optimizations.
