pluginpac....... woopieee

ushere wrote on 2/20/2007, 8:03 PM
just thought i'd share the following.

needed to cartoonise a segment - great freebie in virtual dub msu_colouriser. since wax2e crapped out on 6, i'd given up hope of using vdf's. however, sorting through some old disks came across the last ver of pluginpac. asked bob (farss) if it could do any damage trying. he said why not. so off i went....

SO, you can now also use deshaker within v7 !!!!!

i haven't tried the other plugins (shatter, 3d, pixel stretcher), but who cares....

Are you saying that plugin pac works with V7d? That will be nice to bring back all those things.
ushere wrote on 2/21/2007, 12:58 AM
yeah!!!!!

though i haven't tried anything else but the adaptor....

Jonathan Neal wrote on 2/21/2007, 1:06 AM
What's worth using the adapter for anymore, Mike Crash ported the most popular plug-ins over, and the rest like steadycam don't work with it anymore. Or maybe I'm wrong?
Grazie wrote on 2/21/2007, 1:48 AM
Jonathan - "steadycam" ?
Jonathan Neal wrote on 2/21/2007, 2:08 AM
Grazie, when I said steadycam, what I meant to say was Deshaker. I smart! I smart am!

msu's cartooniser works just fine.

as i wrote i haven't tried anything else since all i was after was a good line drawing look - which i got.

there's quite a few vdf filters i remember using way back, though for the life of me i can't remember them now.

deshaker i last used via vdub, worked well enough.

things move on, but it's still nice when old things work. a little like me.

Ummmm - How does the plugin pack or VDF filters work within Vegas?
prairiedogpics wrote on 2/21/2007, 7:39 PM
Some of you veterans are a little cryptic sometimes, so let this noob tell everybody how I figured out how to get this cartooning VirtualDub filter to work in Vegas 7.

1). Download and install the Virtual Dub filter pack linked above. (note the install destination folder)
2) Browse to the folder that contains the VD filters.
3) Delete all filters (with file extensions .vdf) EXCEPT the ones beginnng with MSU. (if you let Vegas 7 try to load ALL the filters, it will crash. I just wanted to see if I could get the cartooning filter to work.)

4) Download Satish's old pluginpac from this page and install it:
http://www.debugmode.com/pluginpac/
(note the grayed out line that says:
"If you have old Vegas Video projects using PluginPac and you really need that plugin, click here.")

5) Open Vegas 7, drop some video on the timeline, and add the Video FX labelled "PluginPac Adapter". A screen will pop up, asking you to add other filters; browse to the folder where the MSU*.vdf filters are to add them. (View the readme that installs with PluginPac; it shows you exactly how to do this.)
5) Choose the cartooner, and YOWSA, you're cartooning in Vegas 7.

Daniel - thanks for helping to clarify this - I just followed your steps to the letter and, as you put it, YOWSA, it works!

btw, has anyone tried shatter, 3d, etc.,

too busy with project to dare....

Adontech wrote on 2/22/2007, 5:19 AM
Would I use the same process to get this working in V6?
mr.beebo wrote on 2/22/2007, 5:56 AM
Yep. Works in Vegas 6 as well.
Jonathan Neal wrote on 2/22/2007, 6:04 AM
So, after seeing the Cartoon Filter, I'm sold. Also, I'm going to try and make a Vegas 7 compatible setup.exe. I don't know if I can really share it on here, but if I can, I will. danieljoelle, do only MSU filters work? Can anyone collect and write out all the working filters for me?
prairiedogpics wrote on 2/22/2007, 6:11 AM
I only tried the MSU cartoon filter on the timeline, but Vegas did at least allow the loading of the other MSU filters, as well. I know V7 choked on the "sharp.vdf" file, that's why I deleted everything but the MSU filters.
Easy enough to see what filters work: just keeping pasting them to the directory individually and attempt the use of PluginPac Adapter after each addition. If Vegas crashes, you know that filter is not compatible...
Sorry, I did this late last night only had time to test the cartoon filter..(and I'm at my day job right now, so I can't do anything until I get home)
mr.beebo wrote on 2/22/2007, 1:27 PM
Cartoon, Old Cinema, Smart Sharpen and Smart Deblocking are the MSU's I have had up and running successfully as of today.
ushere wrote on 2/22/2007, 1:53 PM
a list of other working vdf's would be great.

and how to remove shatter, 3d, etc., if they're not....

While at it, anybody got recent news from Satish (Debugmode) ?
Has he left the "Vegas boat" for more development somewehre else ? His site has been the same for a while...
Jonathan Neal wrote on 2/23/2007, 3:17 AM
Well, I don't know how shady this is, but I wrote an installer that gives you JUST the Adapter plug in, and sets up a few VDF filters for kicks.

TimTyler wrote on 2/23/2007, 8:54 AM
Thx for the instructions!

The only filter file I had to remove to get it to work was rgbeq.vdf.
DGrob wrote on 2/23/2007, 1:44 PM
Jonathan:

Now this is sweet!

BTW, where are the VDF filters installed? I'm not seeing them in VDub plugins.
