What are you after? What are you trying to achieve? You can't just spice up your videos by adding "professional effects", it doesn't work like that (believe me, I've tried)

Work with the built-in sony effects and use them in layers or combos. I find this is the best for stability and GPU acceleration. Most 3rd party effects are just combos of features already built into Vegas.

I do not know of special effects software for Vegas, but apps like Moca, Hitfilm, Blender, 4d, Maya, Nuke, or AfterEffects come to as effects software, that you would use along side Vegas's editing functions.

I can recommend Boris FX Continuum Complete and Hitfilm plugin suites. Both offer a wide range of professional FX. Both have their strengths but Hitfilm are cheaper. The best way to find out if they're suitable is to try the demos. I also own other FX but usually rely on BCC or Hitfilm.

I too highly recommend Boris Continuum Complete (BCC). HitFilm plugins also offer a wide range of effects. However, I do not find them to be nearly as high quality as BCC. If price is a major consideration, then you may want to lean toward HitFilm, as it is lot less expensive than BCC. But as with many things, you pretty much get what you pay for. It all depends on what genre of video you are planning to create (e.g. abstract, precise keying, color grading, etc.).
