plugins for Sony stuff

I was over on genarts site today reading about the Saphire plugins and was wondering why Sony's Media Software stuff hadn't been adapted to yet. Does Vegas not have the plug in architecture needed for something like these? The XPRI is there. All three of Apple's products are there, even the recent Motion. Adobe's stuff. A bunch of more expensive products.

So. It seems like 90% of the hosts listed are dedicated compositors. I think Sony should write a compositor to give us paint, rotoscoping, and you know, all the cool stuff for special effects. Vegas is like Premiere with a few of the After Effects features tacked in. It would be nice to have something with full comparability. I don't know what's taking Sony so long. I suggested that they build a compositor back after the release of Vegas 4. Or perhaps a set of plugins that would add all those compositing type features.

I guess I'm just venting and wondering if other people feel the same. I grow weary seeing all these cool products being released only for the other guys. Never for Sony's stuff. If the Vegas interface wasn't so dang awesome I'd just drop it and go with the big names.

It's not that Vegas doesn't have the plug in architecture, it's the userbase and cost factor. Sony Vegas has a unique architecture that works in some ways better than any other API, because it uses standardized hooks. But...where it's weak is the way it feeds frames, which is why you need to turn off RAM preview for some plugs.
Needless to say...if Vegas cost more, or had a huge user base stretching back over more than a decade, then we'd likely see more plugs. However, it's getting much, much, better. Bug the Genarts folks, maybe we can get them to port over. The Sapphire plug is definitely sweet.
