If you do a search for "plugins" in the knowledgebase (not forum) you will find an entry entitled "How do I force Sony Media Software applications to rescan for all my DirectX plugins?". The following are the instruction in that article:

1. Close any Sony Media Software applications.
2. From the Start menu, choose Run. The Run dialog appears.
3. Type 'regedit' and click OK to open the Registry Editor.
4. Using the Registry Editor interface, navigate to the following directory: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Media Software. Within this directory you will see subdirectories for all Sony Media Software applications and their subcomponents.
5. Find the folder for the application that you are working with and click the '+' sign next to it. You will see another set of subdirectories: DXCache, License, and Metrics.
6. Right-click the DXCache folder and choose Delete from the shortcut menu. This will eliminate the DirectX cache for that specific application. The next time you start the application, the DirectX cache will be rebuilt and your DirectX plug-in changes will appear in the application.

Perhapse this might help.

had similar after installing 7 - sony plugins dissappeared from 7 AND 6. i happened to then download demo of acid pro, and lo and behold, they all came back....

now i don't know what to do about acid... since i'm not likely to use it or purchase it.... do i uninstall and perhaps loose my plugins again?
