This is a completely "do it yourself approach, but I needed to stabelize 1 particular shot, and It worked...

Use Pan/Crop, zoom in slightly, insert a rediculous number of keyframes, and center your new immage around something in the background that ought to be fairly stationary in the shot.

I realize this way is too time consuming for a large ammount of footage, but if you need to correct a critical shot, it works. Plus I know some people like to know a hamfisted approach, even if they'll never use it.

That might be the ticket, find an object in the frame that you want stabilized, put an x on it, then hit the auto stabilize by keyframe button.
Just dreaming.

One trick to make doing it by hand MUCH easier.
Take a still of the first ( or some other suitable frame that you want to use a a reference). Copy it along the whole of a lower track. Apply Negastive FX, set upper track to 50% composite level.
What you now see in the preview window is the difference betwwen the shots. Keep watching something like the skyline that should be stable.
If it's a really wobbly shot, all I can is Good Luck. I;ve tried several peices of software and wasted a day on 30 seconds of footage and nothing will get you back to a locked off shot. Worse still the closer you get, depending on the circumstance, it'll look worse. Slow shutter speeds are the ultimate killer.

That sounds really kool. You would think this could be done on a small scale automatically in V5 with a script.
