PNG Import to MPEG 2 Stream?

Does anyone know if you can encode a series of still frames instead of importing a stream to encode? I have a full feature film that's been output in After Effects as PNG files and gave me the best quality, I'm wondering if there's a way to straight encode those to MPEG2 without transcoding to Quicktime or AVI files...

Any suggestions?

1) Open the still sequence and audio track in Vegas (use import media for the stills).

2) Render the video to MPEG-2 using the "DVD Architect NTSC video stream" render template.

3) Render the audio as PCM (or AC-3, your choice).

Load into DVDA and burn. Since you have pristine (never compressed) source material, this should look really great.
