PNG Needs < 100% Level for Show?

Grazie wrote on 11/24/2009, 11:16 AM
I have just drawn a masterpiece in PsP. Saved as a PNG. Imported into Vegas. It will only "show", against its torquiose BG, if Level is less than 100%. Otherwise I have a screen full of torquiose. Never seen anything like this.

Am I missing something here?

Grazie

What resolution/dpi is the Photoshop piece. Sometimes, higher res graphics like 300 or higher dpi, won't appear when placed on a timeline. Although it's crappy for print, 72dpi is the standard resolution setting for a lot of video.

Dang!

I just tried to repro in V8. It works as it should. BUT on returning to V9 it is working here too.

What gives?

DS, thanks for that. But PsP isn't at that stage of needing to tell me DPI? If it can I wouldn't know where to look?

OK, this is what I did, I took a sample of torq directly out of Vegas (787x576) into PsP and started working on that.

dpi is completely irrelevant and has no bearing in any way, so don't even bother looking.

It's the pixel dimensions of the image that matter.

Dave, there's no such thing as DPI in video. It's a print spec.

In video, a pixel is a pixel is a pixel no matter how many inches wide your display is.

But, to give dave a little credit, if the pixel dimensions of the image are too large then maybe Vegas will get a little wonky. That's the technical term, right?

wonky?

skewed, cockeyed, loopy, crazy, nutty, barmy, wacky, etc.,

though personally i like, contrary.....

"Contrary" is a good one. "If you do XYZ, Vegas will become contrary, argumentative, uncooperative, disagreeable, petulant, hostile, vengeful, or spiteful."

None of this is helping Grazie, though, so here's a general list of things you can do to an image file that might cause troubles in various NLEs:

--File's dimensions are too large
--File's header information is not what the application expects (Header too long, Header contains unknown tags, too much metadata, etc.)
--File is in CYMK mode
--File is in greyscale mode
--File has an unexpected bit depth (16-bit PSD file, for example)
--Application that created the file did so in a non-standard way (I think Photoshop 6 made nonstandard PNG files, for example)

CMYK = Tiff for alpha
RGB = Png for alpha

So this will eliminate some of what can go wonky

Did you come right Grazie?

Yes. Read my second post here. Now, don't ask me why. Something kicked Vegas and it is now working.

Doing a Valentine's Day (2010) graphicy thingie. Lips, arrows & all that Jazzzzz....

(Im)Probable Cause: Maybe Vegas just blushed, stuttered and stumbled due to your racy, love-laced image material, Grazie :)
