polyphonic broadcast wave file support

I just worked as an A1 on a network pseudo-reality show. To record the audio, we used a mac-based metacorder system which creates a single broadcast wave file with all the individual tracks included. All cameras and metacorder were synced using time of day by an ambient time code controller. When they edit, their Avid (Xpress on a pc) opens up the file(s) and they have individual control of the individual tracks. I grabbed a sample file on my usb drive to play with in Vegas 6.0b. When I opened it up on my laptop, it just crashed Vegas. On my system at home, it opened and drew peaks but won't play. I know Vegas 6.0b is supposed to support a broadcast wave file, but I wonder if the polyphonic part is the problem.

Let me tell you, doing location sound, Metacorder is the FIRST application that has made me seriously consider buying a mac. We used a Mackie Onyx mixer with firewire to import the 6 tracks to the metacorder. It was a very sweet system. I would LOVE to have file support in Vegas.

You're correct in that Vegas won't support multitrack/polyphonic BWFs. I wish it did, been working with the R4, and it would be nice.

Go to www.fostexdvd.net and download their broadcast wave manager utility. It's free and it will allow you to simply and quickly separate up to 8 track polyphonic files to individual monophonic files that you can import into Vegas.

Thanks! The fostex software worked like a charm. Would be nice to see native support in Vegas though. ;^)
