poor pic quality from video snapshot

I have been getting grainy picture quality from the snapshot tool when I want to freeze an image from video. I do have the resolution set to best full but it seems to be far lower quality after rendering. Any one have a better idea . Is it an interlacing setting ?Thanks in advance.

are you capturing as PNG or JPEG?
How does it compare to the source?

Capturing as a jpeg. It has a grainy old tv look if that helps. Or even better it looks like it was shot with about 9db gain but the video was not shot with any gain.

Set the preview to Full Best. If the source is intelaced render the selection (loop) as progressive, load this clip again on the timeline and do the same (preview in Full best) and save the picture.

This could be the result of something I've noticed. The eye is less likely to notice noise or grain in a moving image than in a still.

Would the Project Settings impinge on this?

If it's interlace combing then yes, setting the project to De-Interlace method to Interpolate would fix that.

Didn't think of that at first as I always de-interlace in PS as there I can choose which field. Sometimes on is better than the other.

Oh for being able to SEE the problem.
