Poor Quality to AVI for capture

Hey there, I am new to all of this and I did one successful rendering to avi to go back to dv tape with a 5 minute long file. Now I am working with a 40 minute file. I captured through firewire and it looks great. When I go to render in avi, it is set to good, I change it to Best and at the DV quality. It renders way to fast and it turns out all blurry and it only renders like the first 5 minutes. I haev selected all, looped everything, I dont know what is wrong. Please help.

Rendering quality depends on the file type and template you select. If you're 'printing to tape' then the file type should be AVI and pick either the PAL or DV NTSC templates. If you leave either at the default settings you shouldn't have any problems. Your statement that it renders 'way too fast' strongly suggested you either used a different file type or template. Some of the defaults are low quality for web use, etc..

Also be sure your project setting are set correctly for the type of project you're making. As far as playback, especially for DVD's NEVER trust the on screen quailty. Even with DVD player software installed the codec used is probably far inferior to that of the ability of a set top DVD player. Burn a few minutes on a DVD RW and test quality that way. Also avoid a common newbiew mistake.... increasing the bitrate assuming you'll get better quality. Chances are you end up with WORSE quality since many DVD players even if they claim so don't do that good a job at ultra high bitrates. USE THE DEFAULT settings in Vegas!

Thanks Billy Boy - I am at work now, but last night I am sure I chose AVI - NTSC DV Template. Then I went into custom and changed it from Good to Best. I think the reason it is rendering so quickly is that it is not rendering the whole 40 minutes. What could I be doing wrong there, do I need to select all, Loop, ??? It is so strange because the my first attemp wtih a short music video was fine. Now with this 40 minute monster, I can tell right from the beginning title that the quality sucks. It is very hazzy and blurry (the title that is) I need to render this for a presentation saturday - uhhh. It was driving me nutz last night. Thanks for chiming in. Are there any other setting that could be effecting it so much. Thanks in advance for your help.
