Popping and clicking in Vegas Audio

I just bought an 18GB Seagate 15K RPM SCSI/160 drive. I
also bought an Adaptec 19160 adapter as well. After
putting these devices into the computer and removing the
IDE drives I'd been using I began to get small pops and
clicks in the recordings. Not gapping - pops and clicks.
Like a bad CD burn. I have no IRQ conflicts. I have all
the latest drivers for various devices.

Is there anyone else using these hard drives that can give
me some advice? I hate to switch back to the IDE drives
after investing in the SCSI drives.

My computer:
ASUS CUV4X-V (VIA ProSavage chipset)
PIII 1000 FCPGA (133 FSB)
256MB RAM
18G SCSI/160 HD
Adaptec 19160 (PCI)
Ark 24 Pro (PCI)
Generic (ATI) 32MB Video Adapter (AGP)

Windows 98
Vegas Audio 2.0

Thanks to anyone for your help.

I have a different audio card, but setting my BIOS to MPS
1.1 (rather than 1.4) helped in my dual-CPU system.

I know this may seem like a dumb suggestion, but try
switching your audio card to another PCI slot and check
your system to see if the SCSI card is sharing the same IRQ
as the Ark 24 Pro. A couple of years ago I was using the
Emagic Audiowerk8 PCI card and no matter what settings I
tweaked the clicks and pops would not go away. Finally one
day I tried moving the card to a different PCI slot and
BAM! Super clean audio recording from there on in.

In some cases the drivers for the audio card can also wreak
havoc where this issue is concerned. Going back to the last
known good version of the driver can sometimes solve the
problem.
