"Popping" noise during capture

Using Vegas 4.0 when set to do a video capture, the preview window of the video & audio source is clear and clean, however as soon as I hit "capture" I start to get "popping" or "crackling" sounds in the audio. When I stop the capture and let it render the "peaks" and play it back through Vegas 4.0, the noise is still there however, if I copy the audio track into Sound Forge, the audio is clean and also, if I play back the avi through RealPlayer, the sound is clean and when converted to mpeg and burned to disc and played back the sound is clean. Since the end product is okay it probably isn't a big deal but it's distracting to hear the noise during capture and my question is 'why the noise inside of Vegas 4.0 but not outside". Thank you.

I have the same problem when recording audio to Vegas. I'm running the audio signal through a MobilePre unit. There is no crackling until I arm the record button - then, walah! an annoying crackling signal occurs. And, when I play back a recorded region, the crackling is still present. It is also present when I open the wav file in SoundForge. Have you been able to resolve this issue? What video and/or audio equipment are you feeding Vegas with?
