Portable External Drives

I have a new Sony Vaio Z1VA. I want to install Vegas 4.0 to edit on the road.
A couple of questions:
What portable hard drive (to hold video files) do you recommend. Weight is a big issue.
On the net I've seen several. Am considering Data Stor Ultra - runs at 5400 rpm. Or a Fire Wire Direct unit that runs at 7200 rpm. I'll be doing simple dissolve type editing..not a lot of bells and whistles stuff. Do I need 7200 rpm? The Data Store is powered off the laptop..so no power supply to add weight.
ALso - should I use Firewire for input -- or will USB 2 work as well.

Any recomendations? Thanks.

FYI - The Vaio has one one firewire input..and two USB 2.0.
